The Surreal Thing
The choice in the Continuing Resolution (Which isn't really a clean CR) for Senate Democrats was:
1. Vote for it, allowing Elon Musk and Trump to run wild with the government.
2. Let the government shut down, which would allow Musk and Trump to run wild WITH NO LEGAL RESTRAINTS.
So, yeah, Schumer did what he had to do, but he did it in the worst way possible by not clearly stating from Day One the preferable option.
Still, the CR was a cynical trap by the GOP. Neither option was good for 90% of Americans, and they knew it. Why they didn't add even more poison pills, like all Senate Democrats would have to wear tutus and speak in funny voices while proposing legislation, has to be considered a lost opportunity on their part.

The American economy never collapsed because its government was too generous to its people.
It only collapsed when its economic system was leveraged against itself by affluent individuals only interested in grabbing as much money as they could for themselves.

I see gold has reached an all-time high at $3000/ounce.
Not too surprising as life preservers would sell for about the same price on news that a tsunami was coming. And for the same reason.
