It took the jury three hours to decide Trump owed E. Jean
Carroll $83 million in damages. I'm thinking about 2-1/2
hours of that was spent on lunch.

The GOP has no interest in passing a decent immigration bill
because cheap migrant labor is too irresistible when times
are good and scapegoating immigrants is too easy when times
are hard.

Today Mississippi executed a murderer whose jury voted 11-1
for life in prison. But the judge sentenced him to death
anyway. Thirty-five years later he finally paid with his
life for committing the same
crime
as Kyle
Rittenhouse.
Here's the big problem with state-sponsored executions:
Too often the legal system gets it wrong and innocent people,
men mostly, suffer and die as a result. Since 1973, 193 people
have been exonerated and released from death row. There are
likely many more such innocents in the prison system.
Imagine being sentenced to death for something you didn't
do. Well, that's Jesus, but ain't nobody praying to old Caleb
Smith from Mississippi because all Black people look alike
to white juries.
We can reduce homicides significantly in this country by
reconsidering the 2nd Amendment and getting the guns out
of the hands of lunatics and putting them back in the hands
of well-regulated militias. It wouldn't solve man's inhumanity
to man but it'd be a start. It would certainly make the prison's
a lot emptier.
Footnote: Kenneth Smith was executed for stabbing a pastor's
to death. The pastor, who hired Smith to do the job, committed
suicide long ago.

Before I forget, my previous comic dwelt on the Uvalde school
shooting aftermath and one of the most absurd news items
to emerge regarding the attack, and it surfaced the day before
I created the comic, was a story that trumpeted the fact
that
Uvalde
police
officers
(trumpet fanfare) have
now
completed
over 1700 hours of instruction on how best to handle a school
shooting next time.
We are being treated like morons.
Simply put, there is never, and I mean that literally, never
going to be another assault on a Uvalde public school like
the
one
that
occurred
on 5-24-22.
It's going to happen again in a different school system, that's for certain,
but not in Uvalde because that's not how mental illness works.
(Unless
you're
in the
Trump administration which seems to have an advanced training
program for mental and emotional defectives.)
Ideally, every police force in the
nation should be taking the same
training
but
that's
not
going
to
happen. Costs money, you know. But, even if they did, would
it make them more inclined to put their lives in danger
for the
sake
of
someone else's child?
That remains to be seen. All I know is what I read in the
papers.

Dear Peeps; I fully understand that my comics are a hard
pill to swallow on occasion. I should be drawing obese felines
gobbling
Italian
food and depicting existential crisis involving interactions
between depressed prepubescents and kite-eating trees. But
I'm gonna continue to draw the bummer side of the comics
for the near future and I appreciate you coming along for
the ride.
