If
Reddit Ran the News.
Yeah, I'm one of those guys who,
when confronted with a particularly juicy headline
on Reddit,
instantly leaps to the comment section before reading
the story, and there are a couple
of good reasons for this:
(1) The sites in question are way too often
cycle-sucking quagmires of ads, auto-play videos,
and black-magic
javascripting which inevitably causes my browser
to cough up its digital guts.
(2) Reddit is superbly blessed with com mentors who
either understand the umami-esque nuances of a story
or can dissect it with a scalpel-sharp yet darkly
cynical wit. Sometimes both. There's also
a vast, parasitic army of wise-guys and trolls who
have nothing to offer to the conversation but, like
warm potato salad at the company picnic, they're
easy to pass by.
