Beloved
Girlfriend and I did some serious movie-watching this
weekend, beginning with "Cowboys and Aliens" on Friday
night. It should have been titled "Waste of My Precious
Life".
Under
no circumstances should you allow anyone you love,
or hate for that matter, anywhere near this stink-bomb.
Saturday night's movie was a classic, "The Terminator",
which neither of us had seen in years. This new copy
included tons of extra features, the best of which
was an hour-long featurette including interviews with
cast and crew. The most surprising tidbit was that
Linda
Hamilton had a broken ankle through most of production.
Gutsy.
We also got a strong whiff of the magic of movie-making
when Michael Biehn said he never played a scene with
Arnold Schwarzenegger. Really!
Sunday BG and I enjoyed an afternoon out with a 3D
viewing of Martin Scorsese's "Hugo". The
opening establishing scene of Paris was a show-stopper
but, for all of the
book's magic, the rest felt a bit mundane. I had expected
more of a fantastical production but it felt more like
the Hardy Boys solving "The Mystery of the Heart-Shaped
Key". Still, if you're a fan of the history of
movie-making it was delightful watching the literally
magical world of Georges Melies brought back to life.

Republican Job Creation Update
1-9-2012:
Congress will return to session on January 17th. They
will work for six whole days this month. Must be nice.
Don't expect much Federal job creation during this
period.
