That's
Rich
Film-maker
Michael Moore was once on a plane trip and
sitting next to him was what turned out to
be a staunch fiscal conservative. During their
conversation-slash-pitched-battle
Mr. Conservative asked Mr. Moore what he had
against making money, whereupon Michael replied
that if he liked profit so much why didn't
he just sell crack?
"It's cheap to make and people really like
it. Besides, you can make a hell of a lot of
profit."
Yes, crack is illegal but polluting the water
and the air with industrial waste, not to mention
the flood of residue from the occasional worker-killing
oil rig blowout, should be just as illegal
and result in the exactly the same sort of
jail time. It won't make all those dead baby
dolphins washing up on Gulf shores
feel any better but it'd do wonders for my
morale.
Becoming wealthy is not that hard if have little
or no compassion for your fellow man, especially
if you can enjoy guilt-free sleep after having
screwed grannies out of their Social Security
(See: Churches and/or Enron). It works even
better
if you can get people to
work for
you for free (See: Churches and/or the Huffington
Post.)
Staying rich is easy too if you grease the
right pockets in Washington and deny
worker rights, bust unions and keep minimum
wage at starvation levels. The rich can afford
lobbyists
to
do just that, poor people can't. Guess who
wins?
What we need right now is a new amendment to
the Constitution that says that people, and
only people, are people. Currently the right-wing
of the Supreme Court has gifted us with the
idea of corporations as people,
a sure sign of dementia in any normal society.
If Madison,
Wisconsin can do it, we can do it.
We also need to rethink this idea of "lobbyist"
or, at least, quit voting for the party most
likely to give the reach-around to its corporate
masters as its simultaneously hacks away at
the Bill of Rights.

PS, while I'm being helpful please take a moment
and read "9
Things The Rich Don't Want You To Know About Taxes".
It's quite the eye-opener.
