I really enjoy reading the Harper's Magazine Index as it offers a monthly snapshot into the zeitgeist of this peculiar country we call home. One of the statistics this month really caught my attention:

Percentage of American boys aged 10-17 who report viewing sexually charged content about firearms at least once per week: 54.

"Sexually charged content about firearms"?

Maybe it's the way they phrased this, using "about" rather than "with", that confuses me as I can't picture a Glock in a bikini. Or perhaps it means stories about naive young .22's finding themselves ensnared in a seductive web of ill intentions of a rich, old flintlock.

I'd love to see these ads but, being as I'm far removed from the 10-17-year-old target audience, I guess I'll just stick to old Sears catalogs.
