And
So It Begins
This
past Friday night Beloved
Girlfriend and I pulled the metaphoric finger
out of the Xmas Video
dike
by watching the most kick-ass Xmas film ever:
"Die Hard". It's our annual go-to
film to kick off the holiday season. Except
for some funky hair-do's this 25-year-old film
never seems to get old. Or it could be that
I'm still trapped in the 80s. Still, it wouldn't
be Xmas without Bruce and Argyle.
We followed that up with "Arthur Christmas", Aardman
Studios inventive take on the St. Nick myth.
On Saturday we made a mess o' cookies and then
got deeper into our festive cups with the
following
vids:
A Christmas Carol (1951, Youtube)
A Muppet Family Christmas (Youtube)
Kung-Fu Panda Holiday (Netflix)
Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas Youtube)
Ziggy's Gift (Youtube)
In case you're counting that's one B&W
film, one puppet film, one computer animation,
one claymation and, finally, traditional animation.
To
me, that's the five food groups of entertainment.
In a nutshell: Alistair Sim as Scrooge in
"A Christmas Carol" should not be
missed. "A Muppet Xmas" is Jim Henson
at his schmaltzy, corny, wonderful best. "Kung-Fu
Panda" is, surprisingly, a
charming, clever, heart-warming story about
family. "Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas",
an episode form NBC's community, bends the
holiday genre into a meta-pretzel. And
"Ziggy's Gift" is almost painfully
sweet but the animation by the amazing Richard
Williams
keeps things lively. Check 'em out.
We have LOTS more seasonal fun to wade through
but today I added three new titles to the pile:
"The Blue Carbuncle",
"Beyond Tomorrow", and "The Office Christmas
Special". I'll keep you posted.
