Komen
Goin'.
You
might be saying to yourself "Hey, it's Komen's
money. They can do whatever they want with it."
EHHHH! Sorry, but the public gave them a big fat wad
of that dough so it has a rightly-deserved voice in
what they
do
with it. And right
now
those
voices
are saying a lot of very "uncharitable" things
about how Komen is treating Planned Parenthood like
the GOP treats a moderate conservative. As a result,
the money supply from the public is drying up.
The right hates Planned Parenthood because it actually
does what the GOP pretends to do.... prevent abortions.
It also saves women's lives. Show PP a little love
and
donate
here. Thanks!

It
was a three movie weekend for Beloved Girlfriend and
moi. Whoo-hoo!
First up was Contagion. Thumbnail review:
If you made a movie about an uncontrollably virulent
disease going about its business of wiping
out
over twenty-six million
people around the world and then took out all of
the emotion, that's Contagion. No
zombies, no post-apocalyptic thunderdome battles
for the remaining supply of Twinkies, just good old-fashioned
medical research until the problem is solved while
various bit-players dropped dead. You're sad when
it ends because you just KNOW something exciting
was bound to happen. It doesn't.
The second film we saw was Drive and my
recommendation is that you should hop in your car,
drive to your local video rental boutique,
and
obtain
a copy of this
movie
now. I mean NOW! The only movie
that draws any comparison to Drive's combination
of lyricism and violence is Taxi Driver,
both of which feature Albert Brooks, one of my favorite
people in this whole wide
world. In this movie he's obviously having a blast
playing, well,
see for yourself. (See Mike's Video Vault below for
one of the memorable scenes.)
We wrapped up the weekend with a Netflix viewing
of Warner Herzog's Cave of Forgotten Dreams.
The subject of the film is a recently discovered
cave in France
blessed with pristine examples of paleolithic
art. The camera dawdles seemingly forever over the
drawings but, oddly enough, it's just what you want
them to do. Not a movie for creationists but a fine
documentary for the rest of us.

Republican Job Creation Update
2-6-2012: Last
week House Republicans approved
language for debate
on two bills that would gut Federal programs without
having to pass specific legislation. This would,
essentially, equal more tax cuts for big business.
