War
of the Roses
The
Valentine's Day I most vividly remember involved the
first woman whom I courted with any seriousness. Entranced
as I was with her physical charms I was, as usual,
unable to resist the imp of the perverse that
constantly whispered bad advice into my ear. So with
no small amount of pride I presented her with a gift-wrapped
package containing a small box of chocolates and a
pair of real silk nylons.
She didn't get it, but her mother did. I always liked
that woman.
But enough about me. What February 14th memories
do you, esteemed reader, care to share? And if
it involves a priest, keep it to yourself.

Note 1: When Clint
Eastwood mocks
you, you're screwed.
Note 2: This may not be the best
day for this but it's salient to the recent birth
control dust-up: The anatomy of an unsafe abortion.
Note 3: Neil DeGrasse Tyson: If
I Were President.
Note 4: Americus. A graphic novel
about book-burning. Buy
one for your kids.
Note 5: Speaking of contraception, the
new federal rules that the GOP is foaming at the
mouth over have been in force for years. The only
difference
now
is the "no
cost" part. That's the part
that bothers them. (Incidentally, birth control saves
health insurance a LOT of money.)

Republican Job Creation Update
2-13-2012: Today
there will be exactly one hearing about "exploring
all energy options." It
should be called "exploring oil energy
options."
Meanwhile, Senate Republicans are trying to kill
the Violence
Against Women Act.

Dump Fox News
The
majority of the American population understands the
necessity of easily-available birth
control... but
not Fox News. If the president is for it, they're
against it.

Him: But, honey, don't you understand that there's
no evidence that saints were anything more than ordinary
humans with a sincere passion for their particular
orthodoxy.
Her: I understand that perfectly. But if come back
without chocolate and flowers, you're a dead man.

consider that PMS is nondenominational.
