Bitchin'
Minchin
Saturday
was Party Night for Beloved Girlfriend and me as Tim
Minchin finally arrived for an evening of fun and
heretical frolic at our local art deco palladium. A
storm front followed in his wake, resulting in a badly
needed soaking for our pitifully parched area of the
country.
Take THAT, Rick Perry.
We had third row seats so we were definitely in the line of spit and sweat, of
which there was much this evening. Mr. Minchin, if you're familiar with his work,
is hardly shy or restrained.
We were entertained by about a dozen familiar tunes and one new one, a clever
bit of inadvertent censorship. What surprised me was how much of Mr. Minchin's
repertoire involved amusing stories, employed mostly as waggish segues into his
musical performances. He also made the merry best of the occasional technical
glitch and kept the more boisterous elements of the audience in line with random
bursts of his deadly "toe gun".
Ya hadda be there.
I was surprised, and delighted, to hear him perform "Thank you, Sam",
and the whole audience sang/croaked along to "Fuck the Pope". For a
third encore, his final song of the night, he conducted the audience in an oddly
reverent sing-along of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". Quite an achievement
for a "room-full of atheists".
I hope you get a chance to see him if he comes to your town as he puts on one
hell of a fine show.

Regarding
Wall Street, if you're wondering why the corporate media is screaming itself
blue in the face maligning those mean old Occupy Wall Street protestors, listen
to dear old uncle Paul Krugman: "The way to understand all of this is to
realize that it’s part of a broader syndrome, in which wealthy Americans
who benefit hugely from a system rigged in their favor react with hysteria to
anyone who points out just how rigged the system is."
Be sure and read the rest of Krugman's "Panic
of the Plutocrats".

Republican Job Creation Update
"We're
going to have a relentless focus on creating
jobs." -
John Boehner, February 10, 2011.
The following is #95 in a list of Republican
job creation activities
since they gained control of the House in
2011. None, sad to
say,
have
yet to result in one, single new job.
(95) 10-10-2011: Here is what the GOP is trying to get you to believe: As long
as the country continues to shed
jobs it will eventually create jobs.
The GOP isn't really that stupid and they don't think the public is really that
stupid, they're just not going to do anything that might help the economy.
NOTE: As a result of an unexpected wave of enthusiasm
the Republican
Job Creation update now has its
own web site. It will remain on the RP but a
web site of its own will raise its visibility
on the 'net as
we progress towards the critical 2012 elections.
And I thank you for your support.
