California Schemin'

On Reddit today a story was posted about Texas Governor Greg Abbott deploying the National Guard in response to our peaceful, constitutionally-guaranteed right to protest.

As you might imagine I was a bit miffed at our Gov over this action so I responded by calling him "Mussolini on Wheels", a comment that quickly garnered much approval among my fellow Redditonians.

And then the comment was removed because it violated the "Discriminatory Language" rule.

SMH.

This was not just an ad hominem attack, it wasn't childish name-calling, it was an accurate comparison to Mussolini when he latched his fat greasy fingers into Hitler's fascist bloody coattails.

So, Reddit, let me see if I understand this. If I had called Hitler a "One-Balled Bastard" in 1939, as he was invading Czechoslovakia, you would have also deleted the comment because it might hurt the feelings of men possessed of only a single testicle. Is that right, Reddit?

I appreciate Reddit but, you know, god DAMN! Read a book, mods!

There are going to be thousands of "No Kings" protest marches across the country this weekend. Excellent, but I don't think large gatherings are the most effective way to protest fascism in this Tiktok/Youtube age for several reasons (stay tuned... I have a better idea):

Huge groups are not effective because:

1. Outside agitators can infiltrate and cause violence.
2. A large and unsympathetic police presence, not for protection but to lend an ominous note of impending criminality for the cameras.
3. Limited media exposure unless violence occurs.
4. Conservative media will use said violence to create anti-protest propaganda. (See: Any civil protest ever)
5. Even if the protest is large and peaceful all most people will see of it is maybe a 15-second piece of video on the news.

Better idea:

Spread out those same protestors, and their messages, on as many highly-travelled street corners as possible in every city. This maximizes public exposure to the message, keeps police presence to a minimum, and reduces chances for centralized violence which minimizes the ability of conservative media to shape images from the protest to suit their needs.

Just imagine, if you will, people doing their weekend shopping encountering block after block after block of nice people all sharing the same pro-Democracy message. It will tell them they're not alone and might even encourage them to join the fight to save this country's soul.

Protest this way every month.
The best use of massive groups of anti-fascist protesters is outside the gates of the White House. One that stays in place, day and night, until that Orange Sewer Rat takes his free airplane and flees to Riyadh.
