The
Party of Stupid
Yes, I know this cartoon posits the unthinkable, but the
real unthinkable is anyone, male or female, with
an axe to grind who walks into a school and starts disassembling
children using actual weapons of war... and the Republican
Party
clutches its beloved bags of NRA donations to its chest
and proceeds to do everything in its power to prevent a
solution to the problem.
--------------
John Stewart Mill wrote the following in the 1800s:
“I never meant to say that the Conservatives are generally
stupid. I meant to say that stupid people are generally
Conservative. I believe that is so obviously and universally
admitted a principle that I hardly think any gentleman will
deny it.
Suppose any party, in addition to whatever share
it may possess of the ability of the community, has nearly
the whole of its stupidity, that party must, by the law
of its constitution, be the stupidest party; and I do not
see why honorable gentlemen should see that position at
all offensive to them, for it ensures their being always
an extremely powerful party.
I know that I am liable to
a retort, and an obvious one enough; and as I do not wish
to allow any honorable gentleman the credit of making it,
I make it myself.
It may be said that if stupidity has a
tendency to Conservatism, sciolism, or half-knowledge, has
a tendency to Liberalism. Something might be said for that,
but it is not at all so clear as the other. There is an
uncertainty about sciolists; we cannot count upon them;
and therefore they are a less dangerous class.
But there
is so much dense, solid force in sheer stupidity, that any
body of able men with that force pressing behind them may
ensure victory in many a struggle, and many a victory the
Conservative party has gained through that power.”
---------------
One last thing that continues to eat at me: Mitch McConnell
held open a seat on the Supreme Court for almost a year
waiting
for
a Republican
president to take office and fill it with a useful fool.
How did Mitch know the Russians would interfere with the
election
JUST
enough
to
sneak a
traitor
into the White House? Trump, an undeniable laughing stock
to anyone with a working set of neurons who, nine months
prior to voting day, didn't stand a chance in Hell of winning
the election... and then the Russians hacked the
DNC and fed the info piecemeal to the public.
But Mitch, good old Mitch, knew somehow Trump was fated
to save white America.
So
my the
real question is why isn't McConnell festering
in a dank cell for
getting chummy with Russian oligarchs
and dooming us to a Supreme Court that is suddenly this
country's worst nightmare?
