Numbers
Racket
The
words "political math"
have been lodged in the
back of my head since 2006
when
good old Karl "Genius
Boy"
Rove predicted a Republican
House and
Senate as a result of the
mid-term elections that
cycle. His exact words
in an NPR
interview
were, and I giddily quote:
"You may end up with
a different math, but you're
entitled to your math.
I'm entitled to the math."
As you know, Democrats
took control of both the
House and Senate that year.
Much mirth was in great
supply in my household
that day.
Even better.. in my county
that year, in the supposedly
deep-red rolling
hills
of northeast
Texas, we had 50 Republican
judges up for election.
Every single one of them
lost to a Democrat. It
is a treasured memory,
made
even better by Rove's expert
analysis.

Beloved
Girlfriend finds it a chore
sitting next
to me at the movies
as I find the scripts of
what passes for contemporary
major motion picture entertainment
so
stupefyingly lunkheaded (Hi,
Iron Man!) that I can't
resist constantly ridiculing
the
action with
a constant barrage of what
I consider grade AAA bon
mots.
You probably know people like
me and you no doubt hate
their guts. I love you,
too.
Needless to say, BG and
I came to an agreement
years ago regarding "important
movies", I.E., anything
with the
word "Potter" in the title.
I either keep my yap
shut or I get used to the
sight of my testicles
in a jar.
This snarky little problem
sorts itself out when I
occasionally stumble across
a film that has such good
writing and
acting that I'm forced
to sit mute and simply
enjoy the damn thing for
two hours. I mean, where's
the fun in that?
This past
weekend saw two such
"adult"
films
cross our collective paths
as we snuggled in to watch
"Of
Gods and
Men" and "Another
Year".
Both films are what I call
"character studies"
and are sublimely acted.
Check them out for yourself
but take it from the two
of
us that they are danged
hunky-dory.

"We're
going to have a relentless focus on creating jobs." -
John Boehner, February 10, 2011.
The following is #51 in a list of accomplishments by
the GOP since they gained control of the House in 2011.
None
have yet to result in one, single new job.
(51) 7-11-2011: Speaker of the House John "Weepy-Boy"
Boehner admits that not raising the debt limit will
cost jobs. Ahhh, that explains everything. Atta boy,
GOP!

And
what manner of lie is Fox News spewing today? They're
claiming stimulus funds were allocated to ATF's Fast
and Furious program. Uhhh, no.
