Not-So-Special
K
I'm
a pro-union kind of guy, because unions gave us the
middle class and perks like the 40-hour week. I also
loves me some Frosted Flakes. So it peeves
me to hear that Kellogg's, the "Snap, Crackle, Pop"
guys, aren't being so Grrrrrrr-reat to its unions
thse
days. In fact, they've kicked out their union workers
in
Memphis
and brought in scabs to replace them. (Management
refers to this as "The Special K Project")
The company has also off-shored about 60 million
pounds of cereal
processing
to Mexico,
in
plants where the workers are forced to live in compounds
near the plant. Some workers are reportedly kidnap
victims of cartels.
This is not the sort of story that reaches the front
pages of your paper but
you can read more about it here.
And if you're suddenly in the petition-signing mood, change.org
is here to help.
