Money In the Sperm Bank
Would
conservatives limit the reproductive fate of women
if it meant making a killing in sales? You
bet
they
would.
In 2012 dollars the average cost of raising a child
is $230,000. That includes food, housing, furniture,
schooling, toys, medical care and all the other areas
of support a child needs to grow up strong and happy.
Now multiply that number by three million live births
in this country per year and it blossoms to
$30
billion,
per year, just for those particular kids. Add in the
preceding and succeeding years of births and factor
it out by
twenty years and we're now talking trillions of dollars.
Yes, babies are big business. Very big. Trillions big.
Conservatives, those titans of industry, see figures
of 1.2 million abortions yearly in this country and
their
mouths must water.
All
they have to do is figure out a way to force women
to have
all
the babies they can, end birth control as we know it,
and they'd be swimming in even more filthy lucre.
The Republican solution has been to put words in god's
mouth, claiming he's against terminating all pregnancies,
but the Bible says nothing about
abortion
except, you
know,
how
to perform one. Sort
of. It also instructs its readers
to kill babies by bashing their brains out against
rocks, or to burn any woman who has become pregnant
as a result
of pre-marital
sex.
Boy, it's a good thing no one really reads that
thing.
Children are great political tools because our brains
are designed to release chemicals that make us happy
when a baby smiles at us. It's an evolutionary innovation
that keeps us from eating them. Conservatives love
babies until the moment they're born, then they're
YOUR problem. The less government tax-money is wasted
on the upkeep of these
new citizens,
like education and health care, the more profit
for oligarchs in the long run.
This planet is clearly over-populated but if
you want to be the next Octo-Mom that's your problem.
But let's be
clear on why certain people oppose abortion, and it
has nothing
to do with religion or the sanctity of life.
Update: Further proof of the allegation
in today's comic (and rant) is that an Ohio
campaign to ban all
abortions
and hormonal birth control died today after having
acquired only 1/10th of the signatures
necessary to place it on the ballot. It therefore seems
like the only people demanding less reproductive choice
are those who would
prosper
from it.

Oh, that Mitt.
Mitt
Romney apparently lied about Bain Capital's involvement in
a medical-waste firm, Stericycle, that disposes of aborted
fetuses.
Not
exactly the sort of thing that should sully the well-manicured
digits
of a pro-lifer like Mittens. But what else should we expect
of the man who cannot tell a truth?
Mitt Romney. Man of the people.
